CATCH BASIN STORM DRAIN MINNEAPOLIS & ST. PAUL
Catch Basin & Storm Drain Repair
A catch basin is often referred to as a storm drain, but they’re actually quite different. A storm drain is found on city streets and it’s sole purpose is to redirect flood waters. A catch basin is typically located in front of a home or business. It collects water from the surface and when filled to a certain point, located about halfway up the basin, a pipe drains the excess water to the city sewer system. The basin is deep enough to allow soil and other debris to collect at the bottom without blocking the drainage pipe to the city sewer line.
In Minnesota, freezing ground conditions year after year can damage catch basins and cause them to sink in the ground and become disconnected from the drainage system. If you notice during a storm that your catch basin is flooded or that it doesn’t seem to be draining, you need to have an inspection to determine the source of the blockage.
